The Cubs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first, and had a four-run advantage after three. The lone Oklahoma run came on Chris Shelton's third home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning. Elizardo Ramirez took the loss, while Sean Gallagher earned the win, striking out 12 RedHawks along the way. Oklahoma was limited to three hits for the second time this season in the loss.
A BUSY WEEK: The makeup RedHawks pitching staff underwent some changes over the past few days. Frank Francisco and Kaz Fukumori were recalled to the Rangers roster and Kendy Bastista was transferred back to Double-A Frisco. Bill White and Steve Rowe were activated off the disabled list and Yukinaga Maeda was promoted from the Arizona League Rangers.
MORE ON MAEDA: Yukinaga Maeda joins the RedHawks active roster for today's game. Maeda (ma-ay-da) is a native of Fukuoka, Japan, and has pitched for Lotte, Chunichi, and Yomiuri in the Japanese League. The left-hander was a first round draft choice of Lotte in 1989 and has been a reliever for the majority of his career. Maeda has been at extended spring training this year and has not pitched in a game for any of the teams in the Rangers organization.
While yOU WERE GONE: Wes Littleton was recalled to the Rangers roster on 4/14. The right-hander made five appearances for Texas with no wins or loses and held an ERA of 2.35 prior to yesterday's game in Detroit. Littleton allowed six runs on four hits, two hit batters, and one walk, and his earned run average jumped to 8.64. WHATS IN A NAME: When the RedHawks faced the Isotopes on April 13, the pitching matchup was identical to tonight's. Since that date in Albuquerque, one thing has changed. Isotopes starter Eulogio De La Cruz now goes by the first name Frankie. The RedHawks roughed up Eulogio for six runs on five hits over two innings in a 10-9 victory.
AlBUQUERQUE AT A GLANCE: The Isotopes enter play today in second place in the American South, three games behind Oklahoma... Albuquerque had an eight game winning streak stopped with a 13-3 loss at home against Nashville. The Isotopes scored 66 runs during the streak while giving up 41... Andrew Beattie had a 11-game hitting streak stopped on 4/17... John Gall enters today riding a ten-game hitting streak... John Baker ranks second in the league with a .455 average. Brett Carroll is seventh with a .391 mark, and Gall is ninth at .368.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Texas fell 19-6 in Detroit last night... Frisco had its game with San Antonio rained out... Bakersfield slipped by Rancho Cucamonga 6-5 with a run in the top of the ninth... Clinton blanked Fort Wayne.
DOT-DOT-DOT: Jason Ellison is riding a 12-game hitting streak, dating back to 4/09 against Nashville. The 12 game run is tied with Portland's Luis Rodriguez PCL hitting streak, with ended this past Saturday. Ellison is hitting .377 since the streak began... Wes Littleton
