Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals will welcome the eleven-millionth fan in the 41-year history of the team to Rosenblatt Stadium this season. While the team plans to celebrate that milestone with many fun events to be announced soon, it is beginning the celebration by spearheading a drive to raise $11,000 for a worthy cause.

The ALLPLAY Foundation has built a new barrier-free baseball field in Ralston's Seymour Smith Park. The field will be home to the Miracle Baseball League, a new league for children and young adults with disabilities that will make its debut at the end of this month. The baseball field is part of a complex that includes a wheelchair-accessible softball field, playground, welcome center and water park.

When the Royals open their next home stand on Monday, May 4th, fans will be encouraged to drop their loose change into a large, black "cash can" located in Rosenblatt Stadium's front plaza. The Royals organization and staff will seed the "cash can" with a minimum donation of $111.

Using the Royals projected attendance figures for the rest of this season, if every fan who comes to a Royals game donates an average of just three-and-a-half cents, the $11,000 goal would be met. The money raised will cover the 2010 Miracle League's cost of uniforms, registration, insurance and trophies.

"Baseball is a sport to be enjoyed by everyone," said Royals Vice President/General Manager Martie Cordaro. "We applaud the work of ALLPLAY and the Royals are humbled to be able to help provide the opportunity for these kids to play baseball. We're confident our fans will work this miracle."
