RedHawks fall in extras

HIGHLIGHTS: The Oklahoma City RedHawks fell to the New Orleans Zephyrs 12-8 in ten innings Sunday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark and lost three of four during the series. Chris Coghlan hit a three-run home run in the top of the tenth to give the Zephyrs the lead for good.

Neftali Feliz, the top prospect in the Texas Rangers organization, and Dallas Trahern, a native of Owasso, Oklahoma, matched zeros on the scoreboard over the first two innings before the Zephyrs broke through for a run in the top of the third. John Raynor singled to lead off the inning and scored on a Coghlan single. Oklahoma City answered with four runs in the home half of the inning. The first five RedHawk batters in the third reached and four scored to give Oklahoma City a 4-1 lead.

New Orleans tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. The Zephyrs tagged Feliz for three straight singled to load the bases and force the starter out of the game. All three players scored with Warner Madrigal on the mound. The RedHawks regained the lead with a three run bottom of the sixth and headed to the final three frames with a 7-4 lead.

The Zephyrs tagged the RedHawks bullpen for eight runs scattered over the eighth, ninth and tenth innings. New Orleans took an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but Kevin Richardson singled home Casey Benjamin to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

With Pedro Strop on for his second inning of work, Coghlan drove a 2-1 pitch to the left field bleachers with two runners on. Gaby Sanchez followed with his second home run of the series to close out the scoring.

Strop (1-1) was saddled with the loss after surrendering six runs during his two innings of work, while Brian Sanches (1-1) notched the win despite blowing a save in the ninth. Coghlan finished 4-5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored to key the Zephyrs offense. Joaquin Arias had three hits in six at bats and Esteban German drove in a pair for the RedHawks, who have lost three straight for the first time this season.

Oklahoma City opens up a four-game set with Albuquerque Monday afternoon at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Elizardo Ramirez and Giancarlo Alvarado will start for the RedHawks and Isotopes with a 4:05 pm first pitch scheduled.
