Game Keys - Chris Coghlan ripped a three run home run in the top of the tenth inning to deliver the Zephyrs their third consecutive win in Oklahoma City. Coghlan finished the game with four hits and four RBI in the Z's 12-8 win over the Redhawks at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
The Zephyrs trailed early 4-1 and rallied in the sixth inning with three runs to tie the contest. Oklahoma scored three in the bottom of the inning and led 7-4. New Orleans picked up a pair of runs in the eighth to pull within a run. The Z's offense rallied again in the ninth inning scoring a pair of runs to take the lead. The Redhawks Casey Benjamin reached on walk and advanced to third base in the ninth on a failed pick off attempt. Kevin Richardson singled him home to send the game to extras.
In the tenth inning the Z's Brett Hayes singled with one out followed by a two out base hit by Alejandro De Aza to set the stage. Coghlan drilled the homer into the left field bleachers. Gaby Sanchez followed him with a solo shot to left. Pedro Strop surrendered six runs in two innings of work to take the loss.
Brian Sanches struckout the side in the bottom of the tenth and earned the win. The Zephyrs won three of four in Oklahoma City and are tied with Albuquerque for first place.
He said it: "This team has some fire, they did it again today. They have a lot of heart and don't give up" Edwin Rodriguez, Zephyrs Manager.
Game Notes: Michael Ryan added a hit and extended his hit streak to 11 games. The Z's improved to 2-1 in extra innings and have scored 12 runs in the tenth inning this season. The back to back home runs by Coghlan and Sanchez were the first of the season for the Z's. The 16 hits for the Z's in the game is a new season high. The umpires delayed the game in the top of the ninth for 11 minutes for the lights to be turned on by the RedHawks management.
Coming Up: The Zephyrs return home to host the Round Rock Express on Monday. New Orleans will start RH Mike Wood (0-1, 7.71) against RH Bud Norris (0-2, 2.28). Former Tulane stars Tommy Manzella and Brian Bogusevic are on the Round Rock team. TV: CST, Radio: WIST 690 AM
