Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Saturday night match-up at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria Royals squared off against the Regina Pats. The Royals started Patrik Polivka in net, while the Pats gave the nod to Teagan Sacher.
The first period established a physical tone when Victoria's Jordan Fransoo shed the mitts with Regina's Dyson Stevenson. Both players exchanged blows before they fell to a draw. Each team was awarded two powerplay opportunities in the period, but neither could capitalize as the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
The Royals opened the scoring 2:17 into the middle frame when Tyler Stahl buried a powerplay goal. Logan Nelson fed a pass from the right post to the left high slot where Stahl one-timed the puck home to give Victoria a 1-0 lead. The Pats responded with a goal of their own at the 15:58 mark. Colten Mayor walked off of the right wall and snapped a shot past a screened Polivka from the top of the right face-off circle. Regina then added their second of the game in the last minute of the period when Adam Rossignol shoveled the puck past Polivka. Jack Rodewald walked out of the right corner and tried to jam the puck home before Rossignol finished the scoring play. After two frames, the Pats held a 2-1 lead.
The Royals pulled even at the 17:28 mark of the final period when Fransoo netted his second of the season. Sacher released a rebound to the high slot off an Austin Carroll snapshot before Fransoo fired the puck top corner to tie the game. The Pats responded and found a late goal from Morgan Klimchuk with 26 seconds remaining in the game and despite adding an extra attacker, Victoria was unable to force overtime. Pats 3 Royals 2.
Victoria went 1/6 16.7% on the power play, while Regina was 0/3 0.0%. The Royals outshot the Pats 34-19.
The Royals will now welcome the Saskatoon Blades to town on Tuesday, November 20th. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. The Royals Holiday Combo is on sale now!
