Royals Defeat Cougars in Shootout

Prince George, BC- The Victoria Royals bested the Prince George Cougars 4-3 as Taylor Crunk scored in the 11th round of the shootout to secure the second seed in the BC Division on Saturday night at the CN Centre.

Victoria led Prince George 3-0 in the second period before the Cougars scored three goals in succession to force the game into extra time. The Royals' Chaz Reddekopp, Brandon Magee and Ryan Gagnon notched the markers for Victoria. Gagnon's goal was his first of the season. The Cougars' Tyler Mrkonjic, Tomas Andrlik and Chase Witala tallied the goals for the homeside.

Victoria's goaltender Coleman Vollrath stopped 26 out of 29 shots and made 10 out of 11 saves in the shootout. Prince George countered with netminder Ty Edmonds who turned away 31 out of the 34 shots and nine of the 11 attempts in the shootout.

The Royals went 0/20.0% on the powerplay, while the Cougars went 1/714.3%.

Victoria will cap off the road swing with stops in Kelowna against the Rockets on Wednesday, March 11th and Vancouver vs. the Giants on Friday, March 13th.

The Royals return home the following night for a two-game set against the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and 1:05 p.m. on Sunday.
