ROYALS COME BACK AGAINST OIL KINGS Victoria tallies three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 decision over Edmonton.
Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals scored twice in the third period to earn a come from behind victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
Notes:
Record Chasing - Royals' veteran Tyler Soy is now only five points away from tying the all-time franchise record for most career points. The current record is held by former Royal and Chilliwack Bruin Brandon Magee who earned 264 points (113g-151a) in 318 WHL contests.
Edmonton Area Products - Tonight, Victoria had two skaters who hail from the Greater Edmonton Area score as Eric Florchuk (Fort Saskatchewan) and Ryan Peckford (Stony Plain) tallied the opening two markers for the homeside.
Streaking - A pair of Royals extended their point streaks in the victory. Tyler Soy has collected 11 points (4g-7a) in a stretch of eight games, while Peckford has earned seven points (5g-2a) over his past five contests.
Belarus Boys - Tonight's game featured a pair of Belarusians. Victoria's Igor Martynov, who tallied an assist, and Edmonton's Andrei Pavlenko both played together for the Belarus U-18 National Team in the 2017 U-18 World Championships and for Dinamo-Raubich of the Belarus 2 league in 2015-16.
Career First - Edmonton defenseman Jayden Platz, who is originally from St. Albert, AB registered his first WHL point with an assist on the opening goal of the game scored by Brett Kemp.
