Royals Come Back against Chiefs

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals defeated the Spokane Chiefs 4-3 on Friday night as the homeside erased a two-goal deficit with three unanswered goals.

With a victory against the Chiefs tomorrow night, the Royals will secure a post-season spot for the sixth consecutive season. Tomorrow will be Victoria's last contest before they head out on a five game BC Division road trip. During those five contests the Royals will play both the Kelowna Rockets and Kamloops Blazers twice, along with the Vancouver Giants once, all of which will help determine playoff positioning.

The Royals trailed the Chiefs 3-1 with less than five minutes to play in the second period before Dante Hannoun tallied two powerplay goals to bring the teams even. Hannoun's second marker came with only 0.2 seconds remaining in the frame. Matthew Phillips completed the comeback with the game winner in the final stanza when he buried a behind the net feed from Carter Folk. Jack Walker registered the remaining goal for the Royals in the first period.

The Chiefs received goals from Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Ondrej Najman, and Ethan McIndoe.

Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse made 26 saves on the 29 shots he faced. With the victory, Outhouse set the new franchise record for most wins in a season at 33. Spokane countered with Jayden Sittler in goal and he stopped 28 of the 32 pucks directed his way.

Three Royals extended their point streaks in tonight's game. Phillips, who recorded three points (1g-2a), has now earned 15 points (5g-10a) in his previous seven contests. Vladimir Bobylev meanwhile, has collected nine points (3g-6a) in his last five matches, while Hannoun has eight points (4g-4a) in his previous four games.

The Royals held a mark of 3/3100.0% on the powerplay, while the Chiefs went 0/20.0% with the man-advantage.

Victoria is back in action tomorrow night against the Chiefs for their second last home game of the season, and will look to secure a spot in the 2017 WHL Playoffs.
