The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Everett Silvertips 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night in Washington.

The Rockets opened the scoring 1:22 into the first period as Reid Gardiner tipped a Lucas Johansen point shot past Tips netminder Carter Hart to put the Rockets up by one. The score stayed that way through the first period.

Everett scored at 7:50 of the middle frame and the game was knotted at 1-1. Reid Gardiner ripped home a one timer with 0:48 remaining in the period for his 2nd of the evening and the Rockets took a 2-1 lead into the final stanza.

The Silvertips tied it 2-2 and the game was headed to overtime.

After a back and forth overtime period, the game was headed to a shootout.

After a lengthy shootout that extended through five rounds without a single goal the Rockets sixth shooter Nolan Foote walked in and snapped a shot through Hart's five hole. Michael Herringer shut the door on the last Silvertips shooter and the Rockets won 3-2 in a shootout.

Michael Herringer improves to 28-14-3-0 stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced as the Rockets were outshot 36-25.

Kelowna improves to 39-21-5-0 moving them one point ahead of the Kamloops Blazers for 2nd place in the B.C. division.

The Rockets are back in action tomorrow night when they host the Tri-City Americans at Prospera Place.
