Pats Wrap 5 Game Home Stand Saturday Against Hitmen

The Regina Pats (44-11-7-1) wrap up their five game home stand tonight against the Calgary Hitmen (24-30-8-2). Puck drop is 7 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats were last in action Friday night at home to the Medicine Hat Tigers and lost a third straight game, 6-4 the final score. The Hitmen were in Brandon Friday, losing to the Wheat Kings 6-1, their third straight defeat. Tonight is the fourth and final meeting of the season between the Pats and Hitmen. Regina is 3-0-0-0 in the season series. The game can be heard on 620 CKRM with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey beginning at 6:35 p.m.

Lead Up: Tigers Get Comeback Win in Regina Friday

The Regina Pats took a 4-2 lead to the third period on Friday night but lost 6-4 to the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers at the Brandt Centre. Austin Wagner, Nick Henry and Josh Mahura scored the first three goals of the game to give Regina the 3-0 lead. Medicine Hat responded to get within one but Sam Steel scored his team leading 45th of the season while shorthanded late in the second and it was 4-2 after two. In the final period the Tigers scored four times, including an empty netter with less than a minute left to take the win and draw within three points of the Pats for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Tigers outshot the Pats 40-37 in the win while the Pats powerplay was oh for four and the penalty kill three for three. Tyler Brown made 34 saves in the Regina goal, Michael Bullion 33 for the Tigers.

Head to Head

The Pats are 3-0-0-0 against Calgary in the season series so far, winning once at the Brandt Centre and twice at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Pats have scored 16 goals in the three games to the Hitmen's seven. Regina has gone six for 15 on the powerplay and the penalty kill 13 for 16. The Pats have outshot the Hitmen 103-91 in the three games. Regina is led by Sam Steel, who has seven goals and five assists in the season series. Connor Hobbs has a goal and 7 helpers while Nick Henry has six points against Calgary. Jake Bean leads the Hitmen with three goals and two assists against Regina. Matteo Gennaro has two goals and two assists while three others have two points in the season series. The Pats enter Saturday night in first place in the WHL with 96 points, three ahead of the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Hitmen are tied with the Saskatoon Blades for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 58 points.

Vs The Central Division

Saturday night is the final non-division game for the Pats on the regular season. Regina plays each of the six Central Division teams, four times a season, for a total of 24 games. In the previous 23 meetings against the Central, the Pats hold an 18-3-2-0 record. Regina has scored 115 goals in those games to the opponents 71. An average of five goals for per-game and 3.08 against. The Pats powerplay has gone 27 for 89 (30.3%) against the Central Divison and the penalty kill 103 for 123 (83.7%) in the 23 contests. Sam Steel has scored 27 goals against Central Division opponents and has 55 points in those 23 games. Nick Henry has 35 points, Dawson Leedahl 33, Adam Brooks 31 and Connor Hobbs 29. 40 per cent of Regina's wins this season have come against the Central. The five losses came at the hands of Kootenay in OT, Lethbridge in both OT and regulation and twice to Medicine Hat in regulation.
