LAST NIGHT: Tyler Lumsden allowed just 2 hits in 6.0 scoreless innings, helping the Royals snap a 5-game losing streak and split last night's doubleheader with an 8-0 win in the nightcap. The Royals were blanked 6-0 in the opener. Lumsden (9-5) walked 1 and struck out 5, before Neal Musser worked the 9th, allowing 2 singles but preserving the shutout. Craig Brazell slugged his 31st home run for Omaha and had a pair of RBI singles. Ryan Shealy capped a 5-run 3rd inning with a 3-run homer. In the lid-lifter, rehabbing right-handers Brandon Backe (2-2) and Chris Sampson combined on a 6-hitter. Luke Hochevar (1-3) took the loss, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits - including a 2-run dinger by Tim Raines, Jr. - in 5.0 frames. Round Rock halted its' 7-game losing skid with the victory.

ROYALS REPORT: After last night's action, the Royals are now 9-4 in shutouts this season. The 9 shutouts are the most for Omaha's pitching staff since the 1996 Royals posted 10, en route to a 79-65 regular season record and a trip to the American Association playoffs. *** The lone walk issued by Lumsden last night was in contrast to his 3 previous starts, when he had walked 16 batters in 12.0 innings and had an 8.25 ERA over that stretch. Still, he has now managed to win his last 4 decisions, with his last loss coming on June 18. *** Mike Sweeney went 1-for-3 in his 1st game with Omaha on a rehab assignment following surgery July 5 on his right knee. He singled in his 1st at-bat during Friday's opener, flied to left in his 2nd trip to the plate and was robbed of a hit by a diving catch by the left fielder Raines in the 6th inning. Sweeney hasn't played in a game for KC since June 17 due to the injury. *** Shealy's home run was his 7th in 29 games with Omaha and his 2nd round-tripper in his past 4 contests. Over his last 5 games, he's 5-for-13 (.385) and has 5 RBI. *** Brazell is riding a 9-game hitting streak. During the string, he's batting .371 (13-35). He has 4 homers and 8 RBI during the streak. *** The Royals' win in the nightcap Friday snapped Omaha's season-long, 5-game losing streak. *** Billy Buckner was promoted to KC yesterday. It's the 1st trip to the big leagues for Buckner, who'll celebrate his 24th birthday on Monday. Buckner, KC's 2nd round pick in 2004 out of the University of South Carolina, takes the roster spot of Mark Teahen, who was placed on the DL with a strained muscle in his left elbow. Buckner, who will pitch out of KC's bullpen, did not see action last night in the Royals' 2-1 win over Cleveland. He went 9-7 with a 3.78 ERA in 27 games (15 starts) for Omaha, after going 1-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 4 games with Wichita to begin the season.
