Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds can clinch their third consecutive division title this evening at Greer Stadium. With a magic number of two entering tonight's action, the Sounds host the Oklahoma RedHawks in 6 p.m. doubleheader. A pair of Nashville wins this evening at Greer Stadium OR one Sounds win plus an Iowa loss at New Orleans tonight will secure the Sounds' fourth postseason trip in the last five seasons.
The Sounds lead the I-Cubs by a season-best 8 1/2 games in the PCL American Conference Northern Division entering tonight's action and the above scenario would ensure no worse than a season-ending tie for the division lead. Because Nashville won the season series against Iowa by a 9-6 margin, the Sounds would advance to the playoffs on a tiebreaker if the teams finish with an identical record.
Left-hander Adam Pettyjohn (11-3, 3.69) will man the bump for the Sounds in tonight's 6 p.m. opener to face Oklahoma right-hander Armando Galarraga (1-1, 4.97). Right-hander Steve Bray (5-1, 1.57) will make a spot start for Nashville in the nightcap and oppose RedHawks southpaw A.J. Murray (3-2, 3.25).
