Royals Announce Opening Day Roster

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced the team's 2008-09 Opening Day Roster. The Royals roster is comprised of twenty-one players: twelve forwards, eight defensemen, and one goaltender. Reading's Opening Day Roster, which includes five players who played for the Royals last season (Matt Herneisen, Brock Hooton, Rob LaLonde, Mike Salekin, and Danny Taylor), is set out below.

The Royals also announced the following transactions: (i) defensemen Matt Curley was signed to an ECHL contract with Reading; (ii) defenseman Dave Pszenyczny was released from his ECHL contract with the team; (iii) forward Michael Cohen was released from his ECHL contract with the team; (iv) forward Phil Gianfrancesco was released from his tryout agreement with the team; (v) goaltender Nick Niedert was released from his tryout agreement with the team; (vi) forward Mark O'Leary was placed on the three-day injured reserve; and (vii) defenseman Rob LaLonde was placed on the seven-day injured reserve.

The Royals open the 2008-09 regular season against the Elmira Jackals on Friday, October 17, 2008 at First Arena in Elmira, New York.
