2008-09 Season Opening Roster Announced

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, announced the team's season opening roster is set at 21 players (2 goaltenders, 19 skaters).

The following is a breakdown of the Thunder player roster:

The following Thunder players were placed on the injured reserve list:
Mark Adamek (D) (three-day IR)
Marc-Andre Bernier (RW) (30-day IR)

Thunder defensemen Robbie Bina, Josef Hrabal and forwards Ryan MacMurchy and Adam Huxley are en route from Springfield and are currently inactive from the Season Opening roster as of Oct. 15. Additionally, the Thunder announced defenseman Cody Blanshan has been traded to the Elmira Jackals in exchange for future considerations.

Blanshan was signed by the Thunder as a free agent on Aug. 27, 2008 and has skated in 127 career ECHL games with Greenville, Wheeling and Idaho, scoring 47 points (16g-31a) while amassing 243 penalty minutes. Blanshan appeared in two preseason games for the Thunder and went scoreless, posting two penalty minutes.

The Thunder opens the 2008-09 regular season at Stockton Arena on Saturday, Oct. 18 against the Fresno Falcons at 7:30 p.m. for "Opening Night," presented by Coors Light, Food 4 Less, Chase Chevrolet of Stockton, Jackson Rancheria and KAT Country 103 with an additional schedule magnet giveaway slated for the game, courtesy of Valley Brew to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.

The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for three consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08.
