Royals Announce 2022 Training Camp Schedule

August 26, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Victoria Royals News Release

Victoria, B.C. - The Victoria Royals today announced the schedule for their 2022 Training Camp presented by Coast Hotel Victoria & Marina by APA set to take place at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The team is excited to open the Rookie and Main Camp phases to the public for the first time since 2019.

Rookie Camp opens on Thursday, September 1st with Fitness Testing, and concludes on Sunday, September 4th. The rosters will consist of players born in 2006 and 2007 who have been drafted or listed by the Royals, as well as free agent invitees. On-ice sessions for the three Rookie Camp teams begin on Friday, September 2nd.

Main Camp will be comprised of returning players from the Royals' 2021-22 roster, free agent invitees born from 2002-2005 and selected players from the Rookie Camp phase. After opening with Fitness Testing for the 2002- to 2005-born attendees on Sunday, September 4th, the players will be divided into three teams for on-ice practices and scrimmages which begin on Monday, September 5th and run through Tuesday, September 6th.

Training Camp will conclude with the Royals' Intra-Squad game on Wednesday, September 7th at 7:05 p.m. Admission to the contest will be by donation to the Island Kids Cancer Association.

"We expect this to be one of the most competitive camps we've ever hosted, and we're so glad that the public will be able to experience it. The 2006- and 2007-born age groups are extremely deep, and those players will be trying to make a name for themselves and to advance," said GM & Head Coach Dan Price.

"Similarly, the 2005- to 2002-born age groups are full of skilled, competitive players at every position, including not just returning players but new acquisitions as well. Every inch of ice at camp, and every minute of ice in our uniform, will be hard earned. It will be clear which players have had the most productive summers and are most ready to contribute."
