Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (June 3, 2007) - After beating the New Haven County Cutters two times in three games at Yale Field this weekend, the Rox captured the series finale this afternoon at Campanelli Stadium by a 7-2 final. Brockton scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The Rox have beaten the Cutters in six of seven games this season; the teams will not meet again until July. 1B Francisco Lebron continued his hot hitting with a solo HR and two RBI in the game, and CF Joe Hough drove home the go-ahead run in the eighth with a hard-hit single up the middle. The Rox will take on the Worcester Tornadoes in a four-game series starting Monday at Campanelli Stadium at 7:05 PM.
LHP Donavon Hendricks made his second start of the season for the Rox and pitched a gem. He allowed just a single run in seven innings of work, giving up five hits and fanning four. The Rox, however, managed just two hits in the first six innings against Cutter LHP Jeff Farrell, and the teams were knotted at one heading into the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh, Lebron drove a 2-2 pitch over the right-field wall for his second HR of the year, a solo shot that put the Rox up one heading into the eighth. In the top of the inning, New Haven County SS Chas Terni ripped a two-out double off the wall in left-center, temporarily tying the game at two.
Facing RHP Greg Dicso in the bottom of the eighth, SS Lino Mariot was hit by a pitch, and PH Jeremy Coronado's sacrifice bunt was mishandled, putting runners at first and second with no one out. With RHP Andy Weimer taking over for Dicso, Hough ripped the first pitch up the middle to give the Rox a 3-2 lead. Weimer walked DH Guye Senjem with the bases loaded to force home the fourth run. Lebron, RF Matt Maloney, and Mariot all had RBIs later in the frame.
The Rox send RHP Mike McTamney (0-1, 0.82 ERA) to the hill against Worcester for his third start of the season tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
