A two-run home run by Burt Reynolds in the second inning and an RBI single by Danny Santiesteban (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI, SB) in the third put the Bears ahead 3-1 going into the fourth frame, before the Rox offense kicked into gear against Newark starter Chris Vasami (5-3). Vasami took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits as the Brockton bats chased the righthander after four and 1/3 innings.
The Rox scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Dan Barbero, Chris Valencia's league leading sixth triple and a single by Mike Torres. Adding three more in the following frame on triples from Keith Brachold and Melvin Falu as well as a Chris Grossman double, the Rox mounted a 6-3 lead through five innings.

Grossman swiped his career best sixth base with a steal of third in the fifth inning.
