Can-Am Brockton Rox

Rox win, 7-6

July 29, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Brockton Rox News Release

The Worcester Tornadoes (6-6) stranded the tying and winning runs on base for the second straight game, falling to the Brockton Rox (10-2), 7-6, before the largest crowd in Fitton Field history.

Guye Senjem's solo home run in the seventh inning seemed like mere insurance at the time, giving the division-leading Rox a 7-3 lead nine outs away from victory.

But Worcester's Josh Beauregard lashed a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame, the third of the season for the Tornadoes' leftfielder, and suddenly the home team trailed by just a run.

Into the game came Eddie Aucoin, who a day earlier had pitched valuable relief over 1.2 innings. In this game the Newton native would finish matters, recording the final two outs of the seventh, striking out the side in the eighth, and inducing Omar Pena to ground into a game-ending double play in the ninth. It was Aucoin's second save of the season.

Brockton took the early lead on Friday night, tallying twice in the second on Eddie Gerald's run-scoring double and Andrew Salvo's suicide squeeze.

The Tornadoes scratched back slowly, scoring one in the second on Danilo Reynoso's RBI double and one in the third on a base hit by Josh Beauregard. In the fifth, Alex Nunez plated Keith Beauregard with a single to complete the comeback and give Worcester a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Brockton responded. Two walks sandwiched around an error loaded the bases, and Brian Jones followed with a two-run double to retain the lead at 4-3 and knock out starter Mike Cox. Reliever Steve Palazollo allowed RBI groundout to Kris Zacuto and an RBI double by Jake Daubert before finally ending the rally.

Senjem went deep off Palazollo the next inning to add what looked at the time to be simple icing on the cake. It turned out to be the most important ingredient to a Rox victory.

Brockton starter Craig Anderson (2-0) lasted six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits in his second victory in as many starts with the Rox. Cox (1-4), just inserted into the rotation in place of Chris Shank right before gametime, surrendered six runs on six hits in five-plus innings to take the defeat.

With at least a split ensure in the four-game weekend set, Brockton looks to clinch a series win on Saturday night at 7:05 in Worcester. The Rox send Mike Henry (4-2, 5.24) to the hill against the Tornadoes' Junior Guerrero (3-1, 3.51).
