Spirit Roll To Second Straight Win Over Elmira
July 29, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release
Behind a strong start from Ryan Bicondoa, North Shore jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the defeated Elmira 9-3 on Friday night to pick up their second victory of the series.
Ryan Bicondoa (5-3) picked up the win for the Spirit allowing just three runs, while striking out six in seven complete innings. Buddy Bengel (2-3) took the loss for the Pioneers allowing six earned runs on 10 hits.
Unlike last night's come-from-behind victory, the Spirit scored early and often tonight. They were in control for the entire game, leading by as many as nine runs.
The Spirit got on the board in the second inning, as Andy Howdeshell singled and scored on an RBI double to right center from Marcos Agramonte.
In the third inning, the Spirit capitalized on two Elmira errors and a wild pitch to score five runs on just three hits. Nine men came to the plate for the Spirit in the inning as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead.
Yuri Sanchez got the Spirit attack started with a single, and after another single from Garrett Weir he came home to score the first run of the inning when Rob Fischer reached base on an error. Brian Macchi picked up an RBI in the inning, scoring Rob Fischer on a single. Howdeshell scored Macchi on a sacrifice fly for the final run of the inning.
One inning later the Spirit resumed their attack and put two more runs on the board. After back to back singles from Fischer and Vic Davilla, Travis Oglesby laced the third single in a row to score both runners. Macchi followed that with the fourth straight single for the Spirit, scoring Oglesby with the innings final run.
Elmira finally managed to get on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth. Das Jesson led off with a double and scored two batters later on another double from Booth. Booth came home on an RBI single from Onix Mercado, cutting the Spirit lead to five.
Elmira added another run in the seventh when Booth picked an RBI on a single. That was as close as the Pioneers would get, however, as Peter Soteropoulos kept Elmira off the scoreboard for the final two innings.
The series resumes tomorrow night at the New Fraser Field, when the Spirit take on the Pioneers at 7 p.m. There will be fireworks following the game, so be sure so stick around.
