New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - On Thursday, July 28, the New Jersey Jackals proudly announced the signing of Can Am League All-Star John Lindsey with the Florida Marlins Minor League affiliates. Lindsey was informed of the great news early Thursday morning, and soon departed ways with the Jackals. Lindsey had become a fan favorite at Yogi Berra Stadium due to his soft-spoken nature, and drive to succeed in the game of baseball.

Lindsey had been New Jersey's most consistent bat in 2005, and was well on his way to shattering the single season Jackal record for RBIs. At the time of his departure from the Jackals, Lindsey was batting .321 with nine homeruns and 62 RBIs. While placing second in the RBI leaders, Lindsey was also in the top ten in on base percentage as well as triples and extra base hits. John also received the player of the week honors once this season, as well as tallied seven RBIs in a ballgame twice in '05.

"We are excited as an organization that John got this opportunity," said Jackals Manager Joe Calfapietra. "He worked extremely hard to better himself, and help this team win ballgames. It's a tribute to the opportunities that Independent Baseball can provide for those looking for a second chance to make it to the big leagues."

Prior to his time with the Jackals, Lindsey also played in the Minors for the Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He entered the 2005 season with a career batting average of .268, with 99 homeruns and 515 RBIs in 10 professional seasons.

Lindsey's signing with the Marlins makes him the second Jackal in less then a week to be promoted. Former Jackal reliever Craig Breslow made his debut in Major League Baseball with the San Diego Padres last Sunday, and was stellar.

The New Jersey Jackals would like to congratulate Lindsey on his great opportunity with the Florida Marlins, and wish him the best of luck in the future.
