New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, N.J.- The New Jersey Jackals won their second straight game by a score of 12-0 behind the dominant pitching of starting pitcher Aaron Myers. Myers threw eight shutout innings. The Jackals' offense erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and every player in the Jackals' lineup had at least one hit.
Myers allowed only two hits in eight scoreless innings of work. The Grays' Greg Strickland had an infield hit to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning and Brad Hargreaves had an eighth inning single. Those were the only hits the Grays managed off of Jackals pitchers. Myers struck out eight Grays and improved to 6-3 on the season. James Mondesir pitched the ninth inning for New Jersey and retired the Grays in order to secure the Jackals victory.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Jackals' offense capitalized on three errors by the Grays and scored six runs off of Grays' starter Andrew Edwards. Darren Ciraco and Mike Rucci had back-to-back RBI singles in the inning. New Jersey scored three more runs in the top of the seventh inning when Tyler Brock led off with a double. Zach Smithlin, Ricardo Cordova, and Elvis Corporan all had RBI hits in the inning. Chris Rowan blasted a two-run homerun in the ninth inning, his eighth of the season, and finished the day with two hits and three RBIs. Mike Rucci also had two hits and two RBIs.
Myers and Edwards both failed to allow any baserunners through the first four innings. Rowan was the game's first baserunner when he led off the fifth inning with a walk. Greg Strickland's single was the first hit of the game for either team.
Isaac Pavlik will take the mound for New Jersey for Saturday's game against the Grays. Jodie Kennedy is expected to make the start for the Grays. The game will begin at 7:05 at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, N.J.
