Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (September 1, 2009) - With no shortage of drama, the Brockton Rox set a franchise record on Tuesday night at Campanelli Stadium in an 11-inning, 5-4 win over New Hampshire. DH Palmer Karr's walk-off, bases-loaded single secured the team's 51st win of the season, the most that any Rox team has ever won.

Karr's heroics would never have occurred if not for a game-tying home run by RF Keith Brachold with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Brachold homered for the third straight game when he crushed a pitch from New Hampshire's RHP Lucas Ledbetter off the Caritas Good Samaritan Picnic Tent in right field.

Brachold's home run completed another comeback for the Rox, the second of the game, and tied the contest for the third time. New Hampshire took the first lead of the night in the first inning off of Rox starter LHP Craig Anderson. LF Rafael Cabreja drove in the first of his three RBI with a run-scoring single. The Rox tied the game in the bottom of the first on 1B Clyde Williams' RBI single.

The Rox took the next lead in the game, when SS Dominic Ramos drove in CF Chris Valencia with an RBI double to make it a 2-1 game. New Hampshire came back with one run in the fifth inning when 2B Morgan Brown scored on a Cabreja sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Rox starter LHP Craig Anderson departed after six innings in a tie game, and New Hampshire scored two quick runs against reliever RHP Buster Lussier to take a 4-2 lead.

New Hampshire starter RHP Miguel Flores gutted out a bottom of the seventh inning in which he allowed one run on an RBI single by DH Palmer Karr, but left with the lead after throwing more than 130 pitches on the night.

Neither Anderson nor Flores figured in the final decision as the game went to the bullpens. Brockton used four pitchers in relief, capped by RHP Keith Noe who picked up his fourth win of the year with two scoreless innings including four strikeouts in the 10th and 11th innings. New Hampshire used just two relievers, and RHP Cooper Brannan took the loss. Brannan pitched a perfect tenth, but allowed the two-out game-winning single to Karr in the 11th.

The Rox and Defenders finish the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Jeff Long (6-4, 3.56 ERA) will start for the Rox opposite New Hampshire's RHP Greg Ford (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
