Worcester Tornadoes News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ--- The Tornadoes took leads into the ninth and tenth at Yogi Berra Stadium tonight, but the bullpen could not nail down the victory in either case as Worcester dropped the first of three 5-4.

In a potential first round playoff preview, Josef Frias took the mound and hurled five innings of two run baseball. Frias tap-danced around five walks in the fourth and fifth, but ended each frame strong with a K. Nick Asselin in his fifth start against the Tornadoes, first in an NJ uniform, went seven allowing three runs (two earned).

With the score knotted at a pair, Vinny Pennell (3) went yard off Asselin to put Worcester on top by one. Fast-forward to the top of the ninth and Worcester brought on closer Anthony Sullivan, without a save since returning from the disabled list. Jackal shortstop Mike DeJesus led off with a triple followed by a Timo Perez sacrifice fly to tie the score.

Again in the tenth it was a home run for the Tornadoes that put them back ahead 4-3 when Carlos Sosa (13) sent one over the fence in dead center against Rusty Tucker (4-2). It was Tucker and New Jersey however that would get the last laugh when they once again would mount a comeback in the tenth. Chris Anderson (2-2) was tabbed to close out the game but had some trouble. Walks to Scanzano, Sanders and Perez loaded the bases for the mighty bat of Myron Leslie who came through with a two out game winning two run single pulled down the third base line to put an end to the contest.

The Tornadoes look to get back to .500 again tomorrow at 7:05 against the New Jersey Jackals. Baron Short (1-1) makes his first start away from the HIP for Worcester, while Sean Thompson makes his second straight start against the black and orange for the Jackals.
