Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON - Benefiting from a first-inning grand slam off the bat of C Jason Radwan, Can-Am League innings pitched leader Brad Guy picked up his sixth win of the season as the Brockton Rox defeated the Quebec Capitales 7-3 at Le Stade Municipal on Tuesday Night. OF Keith Brachold also homered in the game; a two-run shot in the seventh inning, and the Rox tacked on an insurance tally in the eighth.
After the Rox four-run first inning, Capitales 1B Eddie Lantigua hit a solo homerun off of Brockton starter Brad Guy in the second. It was the only run Guy allowed in seven innings of efficient work. He surrendered just four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 2 while extending his league-leading total of innings pitched to 117.1. Making his first appearance out of the bullpen in 2006, RHP John Boker came on in relief of Guy for the eighth inning and Quebec put forth their best offensive threat to that point in the game. They loaded up the bases with two outs but Boker got LF Nestor Smith to bounce back to the mound for an inning-ending groundout.
The Capitales again loaded the bases in the ninth inning when RHP Kyle George came on in mop-up duty. George walked SS Willie James with the bases loaded to score a run, and a balk in the ensuing at bat allowed RF Simon Legare to score. After striking out 2B Dany Scalabrini, George was relieved by RHP Jon Koch who threw two pitches and got CF Goefrey Tomlinson to fly out to deep right field for the final out. Koch earned his 11th save of the season in his brief appearance.
Guy's outing was his 11th quality start in 15 starts this season for the Rox. A victim of sparse run support in the first half of the season, he now has won four of his last six starts.
Led offensively by Radwan's two-hit, four-RBI performance, the Rox beat Quebec RHP Keith Dunn for the fourth time this season. Brockton had 12 hits in the game, and now have registered double-digit hits in 10 of their last 16 games. The Rox are 10-2 against Quebec this year, and are 4-0 at Le Stade Municipal.
Wednesday Night Brockton sends RHP John Kelly ( 8-2, 2.62 ERA) to the hill in search of his league-leading ninth victory. Quebec will counter with LHP Jason Pilkington (4-1, 2.75 ERA).
