Spirit prevail in offensive onslaught

August 8, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release

In a game which saw seven of the nine Spirit hitters come away with RBIs, North Shore pounded New Haven for 11 runs on 17 hits to pick up their fourth straight win.

Somewhat overshadowed by the scoring spree was a spectacular start from Joey Siak (4-6). The lefty starter went the distance for the Spirit allowing just six hits en route to a complete-game shutout. Cutters starter Jarrett Stawarz (5-5) allowed 10 earned runs on 12 hits in 3.2 innings of work to suffer the loss.

The Spirit got to Stawarz early in this game with a first inning score. B.J. Weed doubled down the left field line to get things started and moved to third on the throw. Ryan Bethel scored Weed with a sac fly to center for the game's first run.

North Shore broke things open with a four-run third inning. Bethel led off the inning with a walk and scored all the way from first on a double off the bat of Vic Davilla. Davilla moved to third on an infield single from Rob Fischer and came around to score on a base hit from Alex Trezza. Jeff Brooks scored both Fischer and Trezza with a single to put the Spirit ahead, 5-0.

Things went from bad to worse for the Cutters' starter in the fourth as the Spirit batted around and doubled their advantage to 10 runs. Luis Sabino got things started, continuing to make his presence felt in the Spirit lineup with a solo home run over right field wall. Twice in the inning the Spirit laced back-to-back RBI singles with Davilla and Fischer teaming up for the first pair of run-scoring base hits and Brooks and Andrew Wishy following suit.

The Spirit tacked on one final run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Brooks scored Fischer with a double to center for his fourth RBI of the contest.

The Spirit and the Cutters conclude the series with a noontime affair tomorrow at Fraser Field. North Shore will be looking for the series sweep with Bryan Morse on the mound, while Rolando Valles gets the start for New Haven.
