WORCESTER, MA- The Tornadoes bats were hot tonight as they scored in four different innings on Tuesday night in front of a sellout crowd of 3,256 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field as they enjoyed Elvis Night and picked up the win.
The Tornadoes started off the first breaking their scoreless inning streak by putting two runs on the board. Ricardo Cordova started off the inning with a double and then scored as the next batter, Josh Beauregard, followed up with an RBI double. Beauregard later scored on a sacrifice fly by Bob Tewksbary who returned to the Tornadoes line-up earlier in the day.
In the third the Tornadoes tacked on another run as Brian Rios hit an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Cordova who reached base on a walk. The Pride has base runners on the paths throughout the night but catcher Onix Mercado ended any threat in the fourth as he picked off the runner at first to end the inning.
In the fifth, Lucas Taylor scored on a base hit by Josh Beauregard. In the eighth inning, Tewksbary started off the inning by reaching base on a walk. Mercado then stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run shot to left field in the eighth inning.
The Pride were held scoreless until the ninth inning when Larry Bethea hit a towering solo home run off Jamie Merchant to left field for their only run of the game.
The winning pitcher was Greg Montalbano who pitched an outstanding seven innings giving up just five hits and no runs. The Pride's Vince Davis took the loss.
The Tornadoes will send Junior Guerrero (7-3) to the mound tomorrow to take on the Pride's Josh Stevens (1-2) at 7:05 PM at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The first 1,000 fans will receive insulated lunch bags courtesy of Fidelity Investments and Community News.
In other Tornadoes news- Alex Pena was placed on the disabled list and Bob Tewksbary was signed and activated.
