
Spirit seize 6-5 win over Cutters

LYNN, MA - The North Shore Spirit (12-9, 37-28) scored two runs in the seventh inning and one in the eighth to turn a 5-3 deficit into a 6-5 victory over the New Haven County Cutters (12-9, 37-29), Monday night, in the first of a three-game series at Fraser Field.
The Spirit tied the game in the seventh inning with a double steal to score one run and an RBI fielder's choice to make it 5-5.
In the eighth, right fielder Luis Sabino knocked in first baseman Jeff Brooks with a triple to seal the game 6-5.
The Cutters took an early 2-0 lead when designated hitter Derrick Gibson connected for a two-run home run (7) in the second inning.
Trialing 2-1 in the fourth, the Spirit used a solo home run from catcher Alex Trezza (13) and an RBI single from shortstop Morgan Brown to open a 3-2 advantage.
The Cutters came roaring back with a three-run fifth inning which included RBI singles from centerfielder Marcus Nettles and left fielder Horace Lawrence III.
Spirit RHP Kevin Rival (1-0) pitched the final two innings of relief to grab his first win.
RHP Tim Keinath started for the Cutters and allowed five runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings in a no decision.
RHP Cory Willey (4-2) took the loss for the Cutters in relief, surrendering the go ahead run in the eighth.
Game two of the three-game series is set for Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
RHP Jarrett Stawarz (5-4, 5.35 ERA) will start for the Cutters with LHP Joey Siak (3-6, 4.72 ERA) going for the Spirit.
