Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA-1B Francisco Lebron ripped a two-run double in the sixth inning and RHP Brad Guy worked eight strong innings to lead the Rox to a 3-1 win and a three-game sweep over the Sussex Skyhawks before 3,263 at Camapenlli Stadium. The Rox have won four in a row and ten of their last 13 while Sussex has now lost 11 straight games. The Rox had just five hits, two of which were Lebron doubles. Guy has now lasted at least seven innings in 15 of his 17 starts. The Rox improve to 18-12 in the second half with the win (42-34 overall) while Sussex falls to 7-23 (30-45 overall).

Sussex opened the scoring with a run in the first. After Guy retired the first two batters, RF Josh Ury ripped a double to right. 1B Jeremy Booth, who entered the game 0-8 in the series, hit a grounder through the middle to score Ury which gave the Skyhawks the early 1-0 lead.

After five scoreless offensive innings, the Rox finally struck in the sixth. Sussex starter LHP Tim Tisch allowed just three hits and one walk in the first five frames. However, LF Eugene Julien led off the sixth with a walk, and advanced to second on an Tisch throwing error which also allowed DH Guye Senjem to reach first. With two on and one out, Lebron crushed a double off the wall. Julien scored easily to tie the game, while Senjem ran through a stop sign at third and slid under the tag at the plate to give the Rox a 2-1 lead. Lebron scored later in the inning on an RBI single to center off the bat of 3B Zach Strong.

Guy did not allow a run in his final seven innings of work, handing the ball to RHP Jon Koch for the ninth. As they did in each of the three games of the series, the Skyhawks rallied in the ninth, putting the tying run at first base with two outs. Koch forced a game-ending groundout off the bat of SS Bobby LeNoir for his 14th save of the season and second of the series. Tomorrow, RHP John Kelly looks to become the first pitcher in the Can Am League to win 10 games as he faces off against the North Shore Spirit at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA at 7:05 PM.
