Nashua's seventh-inning rally downs Worcester, 3-2

(Nashua, NH, Aug. 17) The Nashua Pride (16-13, 33-38) rallied for two runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Worcester Tornadoes (11-18, 33-40) , 3-2, Thursday afternoon in front of 906 fans at Historic Holman Stadium.

East Swanzey's Bryan Duplissie stroked a double in the seventh inning, scoring Andy Dillard with the tying run. Dillard reached to open the inning on an error by Worcester third baseman Brian Rios. Duplissie would later score what proved to be the game-winning run on an infield hit by Nashua's James Lofton.

The Pride scored their first run of the game in the second inning on a leadoff double by DH Larry Bethea and a one-out Dillard single.

Worcester tallied in the first inning when Brian Rios' double play grounder scored Josh Beauregard. In the third inning, former Pride outfielder Elliot Shea of Jaffrey hit a solo home run, his first of the season, to give the Tornadoes a 2-1 lead.

Pride starter Jarrad Levergne worked six and one-third innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, walking six and striking out two. Henniker's Jason Paul (1-1) recorded two outs in the sixth inning and was credited with his first win in a Nashua uniform. Jamie Baker and Derrick DePriest both worked scoreless innings for the Pride with DePriest recording his 12th save of the season, ranking him fifth in the Can-Am League.

Worcester righthander Junior Guerrero last five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. Mike Meagher (1-4) took over from Guerrero in the sixth inning and was charged with the two Nashua runs in the seventh. Only one of the runs was earned as a result of the Rios error.

The Pride will hit the road this weekend for a series in Augusta, New Jersey with the Sussex Skyhawks beginning Friday evening at 7:05. Saturday's game at 5:05 pm and Sunday's contest at 2:05 pm will be broadcast live on WSMN (AM 1590) in Nashua and on the Internet at www.wsmnradio.com. Nashua's scheduled starters for the weekend series are Dan Reichert (RHP, 7-5, 4.35), Vincent Davis (LHP, 4-5, 4.41) and Josh Stevens (RHP, 2-2, 4.66).
