Rox Sweep Rochester Honkers in Extra Innings, 8-7

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Rochester Honkers were back at it Wednesday night as the Rox were looking to take a sweep into a two game road series. The Rox were able to find their sweep as they defeated the Honkers 8-7 in extra innings.

Rochester came out in the top of the first swinging taking a 1-0 lead over the Rox off a two out double by Alex Greer.

The Rox would battle back to tie the game up 1-1 as Tim Colwell (Jr., North Dakota State University) posted a single and was followed by Adam Martin (Jr., Western Carolina University) hitting a double. Charlie Morgan (Jr., Wake Forest University) had the RBI single tying the game up for the Rox.

In the top of the third the Honkers would take their second lead of the game by a score of 3-1.

Tim Colwell would get another big hit with a double to lead off for the Rox in the bottom of the third Morgan would reach first on an error by the second baseman moving Colwell to third. Colwell would then score before the Honkers could get a double play making it a 3-2 game.

The Honkers would extend their lead 4-2 in the top of the fourth off a solo home run by Carter Burgess.

St. Cloud would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth as they posted three runs for a 5-4 game. It was Clay Williamson (So., Cal State Fullerton) leading off the Rox half of the inning getting hit in the shoulder by the first pitch. Brad Strong (So., Western Carolina University) would hit a single and both runners would advance, as Devin Pearson (Fr., University of California) was putout on a sacrifice hit for out number one. Blake Headley (So., University of Nebraska) hit a two RBI single to tie the game up 4-4. Chris Paul (So., University of California) and Colwell followed each hitting singles and advanced on an error by the center fielder with Headley able to score for the 5-4 lead.

It was a back and forth game as Rochester regained the lead in the top of the sixth scoring two runs for a 6-5 lead over the Rox. But the Rox would tie the game up yet again in the bottom of the seventh for a score of 6-6 as Luke Weber (Jr., University of South Carolina Upstate) singled to load the bases but with an error by the center fielder Martin would score the tying run.

Both teams would make some great defensive plays to take the game into extra innings at Faber Field.

Rochester would score a run in the top of the 10th and the Rox would follow tying it up at seven each off three straight singles.

With the Rox holding the Honkers to three up and three down in the top of the 11th there was the chance to end the game in the bottom and they did as Blake Headley hit a walk off single scoring Williamson who was sitting at third to bring the Rox to an 8-7 victory over Rochester.

Starting pitcher for the Rox tonight was Kyle Davis (R-Jr., Colorado Mesa University) who pitched 4.0 innings and was later relieved by Bryce Jackson (So., Washington State University) and John Oltman (R-Fr., Creighton University), each for one inning. Alex McRae (So., Jacksonville University) would then come in at the top of the seventh inning to pitch 4.0 innings before being relieved by Adam Maxon (Jr., Jacksonville University) as he pitched one inning and posted the win. Maxon moves his record to 2-1 on the season.

Your St. Cloud Time's Rox' player of the game tonight is center fielder Tim Colwell. Colwell went 4-for-5 including a double, an RBI, a stolen base, and posted three runs for the Rox in their victory of the Rochester Honkers.

The St. Cloud Rox (12-16, 12-16 North) will now take to the road for a two game road series in Mankato, Minn. against the MoonDogs (15-13). Game times are slated for 7:05 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Franklin Rogers Park.
