Blue Anchors Edge Honkers in Game One

Rochester, MN - The Alexandria Blue Anchors escaped with a 3-2 win in seven innings over the Rochester Honkers in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday June 27 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park in Alexandria, MN.

Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State) doubled with one out in the top of the first inning and scored on a RBI single from Tyler Baker (Wichita State) to give the Honkers an early 1-0 lead. With the hit, Burgess has now hit safely in all 15 games that he has played in this season. Baker led the Honkers offense by going 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Keegan Dale led off the bottom of the third inning for the Blue Anchors with a single, Georgie Salem followed with a walk and both runners came around to score on RBIs from Kris Goodman and Andrew Sohn to take a 2-1 lead after three innings.

Alexandria added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Sohn delivered a two-out RBI single to score Salem and increase the lead to 3-1. Rochester scored a run in the top of the seventh inning thanks to a RBI double from Jeff Campbell (North Dakota.) Brandon Stennis (Doane College) pinch ran for Campbell and would have been the tying run, but was left at second base.

All three runs were scored off of Nick Dolsky (Oklahoma State.) Dolsky took the loss (0-1) as he allowed three runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings. Chase Rihtarchik picked up the win (3-0) as he allowed two runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings. Brandon Johnson earned the save as he recorded the last two outs in the seventh inning. Reid Roper (Illinois) worked 1.1 scoreless innings in relief for the Honkers.

The two teams will play the second game of a doubleheader tonight in Alexandria. Stennis is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Honkers (15-13,) while Spencer Koopmans is slated to start for the Blue Anchors (6-21.)
