Blue Anchors Sweep Doubleheader with Honkers

(Rochester, MN) - The Alexandria Blue Anchors completed a sweep of a doubleheader with a 5-3 win over the Rochester Honkers on Thursday June 27 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park in Alexandria, MN.

Ryan Blanchard doubled and scored on a two-out single from Dalton Leuschke in the bottom of the second inning to give Alexandria an early 1-0 lead. Rochester answered by taking advantage of four errors committed by the Blue Anchors defense to score three runs in the top of the third inning and grab a 3-1 lead.

Alexandria responded by scoring a pair of runs in both the third and fourth inning to regain the lead at 5-3 after four innings of play. Alex Tenorio (Menlo College) took the loss (2-1) in his first start of the season for the Honkers. He allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits in 3.2 innings. Spencer Koopmans picked up the win (1-0) as he allowed three unearned runs on six hits in six innings of work. Jose Cardona earned his second save of the season for the Blue Anchors as he pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State) went 1-for-3 on the night to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. Tyler Baker (Wichita State) added a hit and picked up the only RBI for the Honkers. Hayden Edwards (Kansas) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief for Rochester.

Rochester (15-14) will try to avoid a three-game sweep as they play Alexandria (7-21) on Friday June 28 at 7:05 p.m. Brandon Stennis (Doane College) is slated to make the start for the Honkers. After Friday's game, Rochester will play three games in Willmar before returning home to Mayo Field on Tuesday July 2 to host the St. Cloud Rox.
