
Rox stumble in series opener

Quebec City, Quebec (August 12, 2008) - The Quebec Capitales jumped all over the Rox scoring ten runs in the first three innings to go on and defeat Brockton 14-4 on Tuesday night at Le Stade Municipal in Quebec City. It was the ninth consecutive win over the Rox for Quebec.
RHP James Baker was making just his second professional start and left in the second inning with nobody out and runners on second and third base. He allowed seven runs on seven hits while walking three. RHP Mike Smith entered and pitched three innings in relief, but surrendered three more runs in three innings of work. Smith did strike out six batters and retired five in-a-row (four strikeouts) at one point. After RHP Greg Bunn pitched three innings of solid relief, the Rox turned to utility man Nick Vardaro and then RF Jud Thigpen to get the final three outs of the game.
The Rox offense did produce three home-runs in the game in the losing effort. LF Eduardo Rios hit his first home run in a Rox uniform in the fourth inning, a two-run shot to straight-away centerfield. 3B Phillip Cuadrado and CF Josh Womack also homered in the game.
Quebec's offense was led by CF Goefrey Tomlinson who had four hits in the game and scored four runs. 1B Eddie Lantigua drove in four runs. RF Josh Colafemina was 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as well. Capitales' RHP TJ Stanton improved to 5-3 pitching seven innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Rox and Capitales will square off in game two of the series on Wednesday night at Le Stade Municipal when RHP John Kelly (6-5, 2.56 ERA) will face Capitales RHP Orlando Trias (7-5, 4.18 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
