Nashua Pride to Host Dunkin' Donuts Cystic Fibrosis Benefit Night
August 12, 2008 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(Nashua, N.H., August 12, 2008) The Nashua Pride, Dunkin' Donuts, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) will host the Dunkin' Donuts Cystic Fibrosis Benefit Night on Saturday, August 23rd, when the Pride takes on the Quebec Capitales at Historic Holman Stadium.
Proceeds from all the tickets purchased through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Northern New England Chapter will go directly towards cystic fibrosis research studies and treatment for sufferers of the disease. The night will include an Atlas PyroVision Pyrotechnics fireworks extravaganza, 50/50 raffle, give-a-ways, and much more.
Fans and contributors who would a portion of their ticket purchase to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation must buy their tickets through the CFF New England Chapter Office.
Box seats are available for $8.00, with $4.00 of every ticket benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or an Applebee's Left Field Pub ticket for $5.00, with $2.50 from each sale going to the Foundation.
"We are so close to a cure at this point," said Joe Carvalho, owner of four Dunkin' Donuts in downtown Nashua and presenting sponsor of the benefit. "It is near and dear to us and we are committed to staying with this until the cure is found. We do nights like this to raise more awareness. We want to raise money but also awareness as to what cystic fibrosis is and what we need to accomplish."
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been recognized as one of the most efficient of its kind, investing nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised in vital cystic fibrosis programs to support research, care, and education. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation devotes more money in drug discovery and development than any other disease foundation in the country and was rated a four-star charity by the Charity Navigator, the largest independent charity evaluator in the nation, for its sound fiscal management in 2008.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections, obstructs the pancreas, and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with cystic fibrosis. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
To order tickets though the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, call (603) 598-8191, or email Jennifer Lorrain at JLorrain@CFF.org.
