Brockton Rox News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ- DH Guye Senjem hit his team leading fifth HR to lead the Rox to a 6-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader, while the Rox fell 5-2 to the New Jersey Jackals in the second game at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ. The Rox are 24-20 after the doubleheader split and need to win their final two games with the Jackals and get help from around the league to win a tight first half in the Can Am League. RHP John Kelly pitched six strong innings to beat his former team, and LF Eugene Julien had four hits in the doubleheader.
Brockton trailed early in Game 1. Kelly gave up a solo HR to New Jersey DH John Lindsey in the second inning, and the Jackals followed with a triple off the bat of 2B Joe Mihalics and a sac fly by C Clay Kuklick. The Rox tied the game with runners at second and third in the third frame, when a Senjem grounder went through the legs of Jackals 1B Bill Peavey to score two. With Julien on first and two out in the fifth, Senjem crushed a two-run round-tripper to right- center to put the Rox in front 4-2. C Jason Radwan added a solo shot in the sixth inning of the 6-2 win.
RHP Santos Gonzalez started the second game and allowed two runs in the first inning. Jackals SS Guillermo Reyes drove home two more in the third inning to make it 4-0 New Jersey. The Rox did not score until the sixth, when 1B Francisco Lebron's RBI double plated Julien. Former Rox RHP Jason Wylie came out of the pen and allowed a run-scoring single to Radwan, but picked off Radwan to end the sixth, and fired a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
The Rox and Jackals square off tomorrow evening at Yogi Berra Stadium at 7:05 PM. RHP Joey Baker starts for the Rox, while the Jackals have yet to announce a starter.
