American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(Nashua, NH, July 10, 2006) The Nashua Pride snapped a three-game losing streak Monday night with an 8-7 victory over the Quebec Capitales in front of 833 fans at Historic Holman Stadium.
Nashua (17-25) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Glenn Murray. Quebec tied it in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of the wildness of Pride starter Dan Reichert who walked one batter and hit two others along with surrendering a pair of hits in the frame.
Quebec (16-27) took a 4-2 lead in the third on a run-scoring double by Eddie Lantigua and a Mathieu Bergeron sacrifice fly. The Pride tied in the bottom of the third as James Lofton opened the inning with a double, went to third on a Tom Creighton single and scored on a double play ball off the bat of Andy Dillard. Murray then pounded his second double of the evening and scored on a single by Billy Becher.
The Pride took the lead to stay in the fifth when Elliott Ayala stroked a two-out double and scored on a single by Lofton. Nashua added three in the fifth inning to make it 8-4. The big blow in the uprising was a two out double by Tommy Rojas that scored Dillard who leadoff the inning with an infield hit.
Quebec made it close in the eighth inning when Bergeron belted a three-run homer off Reichert. For Bergeron it was his fifth home run of the season.
All of the Quebec scoring was done against Reichert (4-2) who allowed nine hits but did get credit for his fourth win of the season. Reichert walked four and struck out four. Jamie Baker took over from Reichert in the eighth inning and retired the Capitales before Derrick DePriest set down Quebec in order in the ninth inning to post his first save in the first Nashua appearance. DePriest struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Nashua scored all eight of its runs against Quebec starter and loser Julien Tucker (1-5).
Six of the eight runs against Tucker were earned in his five inning of work.
The series will resume Tuesday evening at 7:05 when lefthander Vincent Davis (3-2) goes the Pride against Quebec righthander Keith Dunn (2-7).
