American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(Nashua, NH, July 10, 2006) Nashua Pride officials announced today that four-time World Champion, Bode Miller has signed a one game contract to play minor league baseball for the Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club on July 29th.
Bode Miller's crowning achievements include two silver medals (Giant Slalom and Combined) at the 2002 Winter Olympics, as well as gold medals in the Downhill and Super G at 2005 World Ski Championships in Bormio, Italy. The 2005 International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup Overall titlist will don a Pride uniform and take to the field when Nashua hosts its Southern Massachusetts rival, the Brockton Rox at Historic Holman Stadium on July 29th.
The Franconia, NH native is a former high-school state tennis champ, and an avid soccer player and golfer. "I have just started my foundation over the last several months and to be able to play professional baseball and have my foundation in some small way help the Lance Armstrong Foundation in its fight against cancer, it's going to be an awesome day," said Miller.
"It's not everyday that you get to see a world class athlete such as Bode Miller crossover and try their hand at the great American past time" said former Boston Red Sox fame and Nashua Pride Manager, Butch Hobson. "I'm thrilled with the level of excitement and energy that Bode will undoubtedly bring to the ball field."
A minimum of $5,000 of the Pride's July 29th ticket proceeds will benefit Bode Miller's Turtle Ridge Foundation, which has earmarked the entirety of the Pride's donation to be given to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
The Miller family came together in the fall of 2005 to establish the Turtle Ridge Foundation as a family based organization dedicated to supporting community health, diversity, and sustainable living. The goal is to strengthen the surrounding community and create opportunity for healthful living, and encourage those who contribute to these causes.
