Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- The Tornadoes showed fight tonight in the late innings, but it was too little too late as they dropped the Friday night series opener 8-4.
Brockton second basemen Derek Kinzler, in for everyday man Melvin Falu, drew first blood against Ryan Lobban (10-7) with a solo homer in the first inning. The Rox would not score again against the left-hander until the sixth when they plated a trio after three straight hits from Kinzler, Clyde Williams, and Palmer Karr.
Worcester had their hands full for the second straight start against cagey veteran Freddy Flores (6-5) who tossed seven and a third as a follow up to his seven inning complete game in his last start. The Tornadoes scored an unearned run on an errant Flores pick off throw in the fourth, a Carlos Sosa single and Yohanny Valera sac-fly in the seventh against Brockton relievers Brad Hertzler and Keith Noe respectively. Both were charged to Flores.
Trailing 6-3 in the top of the ninth, Steve Cadoret served up a two run triple to Chris Valencia to put the game out of reach. A single run against Jerry Dunn in a non-save situation concluded to scoring.
Due to the Holy Cross football home opener, game two of this series will take place at Campanelli Stadium tomorrow evening at 6:05. Chris Farley (5-3) for Worcester and John Kelly (1-3) for Brockton will both make their final tune up starts before the post season.
