Brockton Rox News Release
(Ramapo, N.Y.) ¬" Home runs by Keith Brachold and Ryan Royster powered the Brockton Rox (15-10) to a 4-1 victory over the Rockland Boulders (8-14) in a rematch of Thursday ¬â¢s pitchers duel between Mike Smith (3-2) and Bobby Blevins (2-1).
The Rox flipped the script Tuesday night at Provident Bank Park as Brachold homered for the fifth straight game, giving Brockton a 2-0 first inning lead that alone would have been enough to win behind a stellar effort from Smith.
The veteran righthander allowed just one run in the first inning before settling in and working in and out of situations with men on base unscathed. Smith lasted seven and 1/3 innings and scattered five hits while walking two and striking out three.
After Brachold ¬â¢s blast in the first, Blevins slowed the Rox offense over the next seven frames, despite allowing eleven hits and working through trouble in five of the innings. He returned for the ninth which may have been one inning too long as Royster led off with a solo shot, giving the Rox some much needed insurance.
Shawn Williams followed with a double and came home on a delayed squeeze by Chris Valencia that capped off the scoring for Brockton.
Royster ¬â¢s home run was his league leading tenth of the season and his third in two games.
Brad Hertzler and Travis Hughes (6) finished the job for Brockton out of the bullpen, shutting down the final five Boulders hitters, striking out three. Hughes ¬â¢ sixth save leads the league.
Bachold finished the evening 4-for-4 and has now connected for a home run in his last four games and has hit safely in eleven straight.
The series and roadtrip wrap up Wednesday night with the rubber match between Rox righty Robert Bono and Boulders southpaw Roger Lincoln. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Following the series finale, the Rox return home for a Heineken Thirsty Thursday at Campanelli Stadium in a one game stand against Rockland.
