Rox Pound Their Way Past Pioneers

Elmira, NY- A five run sixth inning for the Rox helped propell them to an 11-3 win over the Pioneers on Tuesday night.

After falling behind 3-0 in the third inning on one of Abner Arroyo's two home runs the Pioneers got two runs back in teh fourth inning. The first came on a solo home run from Jeremy Dodson, his team high fourth of the season. Later in the inning Matt Cucurullo drove in the Pioneers second run of the evening as he singled home Steve Checksfield, who had walked following Dodson's home run.

In the sixth inning the Rox blew the game open with five runs, aided by Arroyo's second home run of the game. Dodson did his best to keep the Pioneers in the game, launching a solo home run, his second of the game and fifth of the season in the eighth inning to make it 9-3. But that would be it for the Pioneers as the Rox added two more runs in the ninth to make it a 11-3 final.

Elmira starter Matt Burch (1-1) got tagged with his first loss of the season after working 6 1/3 inning allowing nine runs, five earned, while Brockton starter Robert Averette picked up the win.

One bright spot for the Pioneers was Dennis Abreu's 3-4 night. Abreu picked up a double and two singles a day after signing with Elmira.
