
Jackals score early but lose late

Little Falls, NJ â The New Jersey Jackals got ahead early, but couldn't finish against the North Shore Spirit, in a 3-2 loss.
New Jersey got ahead early in the top of the first. Following a Craig Conway, one out single, Wilton Veras singled for his thirteenth RBI of the season, to put the Jackals on the scoreboard.
In the second, leadoff batter Wady Almonte belted his fifth homerun of the season, putting the Jackals ahead 2-0.
The Spirit would strike back with a homerun of their own in the bottom of the third. With Nilson Teilon aboard the bases, Vic Davilla drilled a pitch over the right field wall, tying the game at two.
The scoring would slow down until the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Yuri Sanchez walked, with Jackals reliever Carlos Figueroa in the ballgame. The next batter, Marcos Agramonte, doubled down the left field line, plating Sanchez, giving the Spirit a 3-2 lead.
New Jersey starter Josh Miller pitched six innings, giving up six hits, and only two earned runs. Carlos Figueroa picked up the loss, in relief, for the Jackals.
North Shore starting pitcher Ben Knapp pitched eight and one thirds innings, giving up eight hits, and two earned runs. He was awarded the victory. Closer Ryan Bicondoa notched his fifth save of 2004.
Wilton Veras was 3-4 with an RBI for New Jersey.
Rob Fischer was 2-3 for the Spirit.
