New Haven County Cutters News Release

(West Haven, CT- June 22, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters needed eleven innings to get their Northeast League season leading 9th consecutive victory with a 3-2 dramatic win at Yale Field.

With the Cutters trailing by one in the bottom of the tenth and one out, Adam Shorsher blasted the first pitch he saw from Quebec reliever Greg Runser for a solo home run to tie the game at 2. For Shorsher, that was his second homer of the game and fourth in his last three games.

With one out in the top of the eleventh, Lee Delfino reached on a singe that represented the go-ahead run. Steve Booker followed with a line drive down the left field line that was played perfectly by New Haven leftfielder Kevin Forbes. Quebec Manager Darren Bush waived home Lee Delfino and the relay throw from Jose Mateo was corralled by Adam Shorsher who protected the plate and tagged out the runner for the second out of the inning. AJ Brack then struck out the next hitter to end the threat.

After a leadoff walk to Jimmy Hurst, who was replaced by pinch-runner PJ Johnston, Hector Lebron attempted to lay down the sacrifice bunt that was fielded by Runser who attempted to get the speedy Johnston at second. Johnston slid in safely ahead of the ball and Lebron beat the relay to first. One batter later Ryan Kane walked to load the bases with one out. Kevin Forbes broke his bat on a 1-0 pitch that squeaked by a diving Eddie Lantigua at third base scoring Johnston for the game-winning run.

Gavin Fingleson went 2-for-5 for New Haven.

Cutters Starter, Skip Wiley set season high's with his eight innings of work and five strikeouts.

AJ Brack got the win in two innings of relief to earn his second victory of the season.
