
Rox Lose to Jackals, 4-1

The Brockton Rox (14-14) set a new home attendance record on Friday night, falling 4-1 to the New Jersey Jackals (12-16) in front of 6,131.
Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd started for the Rox. Boyd gave up three runs on seven hits in six-plus innings of work. Boyd (0-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season.
The Rox took an early lead in the second inning. Brian Jones scored on a bases loaded infield single by Eugene Julien to put the Rox up, 1-0.
New Jersey tied the game when Ricardo Cordova led off the sixth inning with a solo home run off of Boyd.
In the top of the seventh, Rich Gomez led off with a single, and Darren Ciraco followed with a bunt single. Steve Checksfield tripled off of Tony Stutz to score Gomez and Ciraco to put the Jackals ahead, 3-1. Checksfield scored on Chris Rowan's sacrifice fly to cap the 4-1 victory.
Issac Pavlik (1-0) picked up the win, going eight innings and striking out nine. Fabricio Benitez picked up his second save of season.
