New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals played from behind early, but rallied back to top the Brockton Rox in the first game of a three game series, 4-1.

Brockton got on the scoreboard first, in the bottom of the second inning on a bases loaded single by Eugene Julien. It put them up 1-0.

Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd shut out the Jackals until the top of the sixth, when they finally broke through against the veteran. With one out, Ricardo Cordova homered to tie the score at one.

In the sixth, they'd land the knockout punch on the Rox. Steve Checksfield tripled home a pair of runs, and Chris Rowan drove him in on a sacrifice fly, putting the Jackals ahead to stay, 4-1

Dennis Boyd went six innings for the Rox in a losing effort. He surrendered three earned runs on seven hits, while walking none, and fanning one. Isaac Pavlik got the win for the Jackals in his second start of 2005. He was magnificent in eight full innings. He allowed only six hits, and one earned, walked none, and struck out nine. Fabricio Benitez pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

Steve Checksfield finished 3-4 with two stolen bases, a triple, and two RBIs for the New Jersey Jackals. New Jersey native Jake Daubert went 1-4 for Brockton.
