Whitworth's arrival completes trade

New Haven County Cutters News Release

The player to be named later in the trade between the New Haven County Cutters and the New Jersey Jackals has been identified as lefty pitcher Brad Whitworth. This completes the swap that sent Cutters outfielder Darren Ciraco to the Jackals for Mike Piercy and the aforementioned Whitworth.

"He (Whitworth) was the key to the trade for us," Bob Wirz Director of Player Procurement said. "He is another quality starting pitcher, although it means that it is likely that a current starter will go to the bullpen."

Whitworth started five games for the Jackals this season, posting a record of 2-2 with an earned run average of 4.73. Ironically, his last start with the New Jersey team came against the Cutters. He pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs and picked up the loss.

The 6-2, 190-pound southpaw has spent his entire career in the independent baseball ranks after pitching at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. A Denver native, Whitworth was 12-17 with a 3.98 ERA prior to this season.

Whitworth is expected to make his Cutters debut on Tuesday when the team begins its weeklong road trip at Elmira.

After the three-game series this weekend at Yale Field against North Shore, the next Cutters homestand will begin on July 5 at 7:05. Tickets for upcoming home games can be purchased at www.CuttersBaseball.com, by calling 203-777-5636 or by visiting the Yale Field box office.
