Brockton Rox News Release

Quebec City - Brockton couldn't solve Quebec's all-star righthanded starter Bryan Rembisz, mustering only two hits as the Capitales took the first game of the Can-Am League semifinal series, 10-1, at Stade de Quebec on Wednesday evening.

After a quiet three and a half innings to open the game, the Capitales got on the board in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles by C Pete LaForest and SS Ivan Naccarata.

Brockton's run and two hits came in the fifth. After flyouts by 3B Phillip Cuadrado and 1B Melvin Falu, DH Shawn Williams singled, stole second, and came home on Dan Barbero's single, halving the Quebec lead.

The Capitales' bats then came alive, scoring eight unanswered runs to put the game out of reach. In the bottom of the fifth, CF Goefrey Tomlinsonblasted a one-out solo home run, increasing the Quebec lead to 3-1. The Capitales then scored four more in the seventh on Tomlinson's sacrifice fly, SS Jeff Helps' RBI single, and 1B Rene Leveret's two-run double, and made it a 10-1 game in the eighth on C Patrick D'Aoust's three-run homer. Brockton starter Zach Woods put forth a solid outing before running into trouble in the seventh. The rookie gave up five runs on eight hits in six and one-third innings, walking one and striking out eight.

Rembisz pitched seven innings, fanning two and walking one for the victory. Jeff Duda and Dexter Bobo then threw perfect eighth and ninth innings, respectively. On the offensive side, Helps, LaForest, Henry and D'Aoust all had two-hit evenings for the two-time defending league champions.

The Rox have never registered a postseason win at Le Stade, falling to 0-7 with Wednesday's loss.

The two teams will return to action Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m., with Julian Sampson (regular season record 10-5) on the hill for Brockton against the Capitales' Karl Gelinas (8-6).
