Colabello Wins 2011 Canam League Player of the Year Award

Chris Colabello won the 2011 CanAm League Player of the Year Award on Wednesday. The Tornadoes First Baseman finished second in the league in all three Hitting Triple Crown Categories: Batting Average (.348), Homeruns (20) and Runs Batted In (79).
He led the league in Total Bases (219), Extra Base Hits (52), Doubles (32) and Slugging Percentage (.600). The slugger ended the 2011 campaign second in both Runs (75) and Hits (127) and fourth in On-Base Percentage (.410).
The Milford, Mass. native won the Pointstreak CanAm League Player of the Week Award twice in 2011, each time hitting .500 with multiple homers. He reached base safely in 30 straight games and had two separate 15+ game hitting streaks. Chris had three multi-homer games, a game-tying grand slam and a six-RBI performance over the course of this summer. The grand slam came just an inning before Colabello hit the game-winning double against Les Quebec Capitales in a 7-6 victory on August 26. He also had a walk-off homerun against the New Jersey Jackals on July 28.
He was the only Tornado to play in all 92 contests. While spending the majority of his time at first base this past season, Chris also played third, left field and right field. He batted third in every single 2011 Tornadoes game.
Colabello and five other Worcester batters scored 60 or more times, pacing the league's second-best offense. The Tornadoes tied the Brockton Rox with 523 runs scored, while the Newark Bears scored 531. He was one of four Worcester hitters with 15+ homers and one of two with 100+ hits. The Tornadoes' offense as a whole led the league in Homers (98), RBI (487), On-Base Percentage (.369) and Slugging Percentage (.450).
Colabello (1B), Mark Minicozzi (3B) and Nick Salotti (DH) were named 2011 CanAm League All-Stars on Tuesday.
