Brockton Rox News Release
Worcester, Mass. - The Brockton Rox (7-1) offense got started early and often Friday night, crushing the Worcester Tornadoes (3-6) 16-0 after an offensive assault that plated 14 runs in the first three innings.
Worcester starter Chris Allen (0-2) lasted just an inning and 1/3 for the second consecutive outing against Brockton. The righthander gave up seven runs (four earned) on six hits, only to be relieved by JJ Pacella, who faced a similar fate.
Pacella, unable to stop the bleeding, allowed seven more runs (five earned), including two consecutive two-run home runs in the third frame. The first came off the bat of Melvin Falu (4) and Chris Grossman followed suit two batters later.
Jorge Jimenez led the way for Brockton, knocking in four runs, while going 3-for-5 with two doubles.
Keith Brachold also had an impressive night, reaching base in all six of his at bats, while putting together a 4-for-4 performance at the dish.
Brachold and Grossman each scored a team high four times in the blowout.
Rox starter Robert Bono (2-0) worked in and out of trouble through the first six innings, but managed to get tough out after tough out, keeping the Tornadoes off of the scoreboard. He scattered five hits and struck out four to combine with bullpen help from Brad Hertzler and Jimmer Kennedy for the shutout.
The Tornadoes left 11 men on base in the contest and have now left 21 men stranded through the first two games of the series. With the victory, the Rox improve to 6-0 against their eastern Massachusetts rival.
Righty Julian Sampson is set to take the mound for the Rox in game three and will be opposed by southpaw Nick Serino as the series continues Saturday night, June 4 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The Rox look to remain perfect against the Tornadoes, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Catch all of the action starting at 6:45 p.m. on AM 1460 WXBR.
