June 3, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Pittsfield Colonials News Release
The Pittsfield Colonials committed seven errors leading to five unearned Quebec Capitales runs as the Colonials fell to the Capitales 10-8.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the second, the Colonials sent eight men to the plate in the frame, scoring three runs, the last one coming home on a drag bunt hit by Quentin Davis for a 3-1 Pittsfield edge.
The lead was shortlived, however, as Quebec scored two runs in the bottom of the second, thanks to two hits and a Pittsfield error. The Colonials wasted no time in getting the runs back and more. Leading off the top of the third, Jerod Edmondson doubled. That was followed by singles from Angel Molina and Billy Mottram to put Pittsfield up 4-3. For Mottram, the single gave him an eight-game hitting streak. Two batters later, Scott Knazek tripled to center to score Molina and Mottram and put the Colonials up by three.
Quebec continued to chip away scoring runs in both the third and fifth to pull to within 6-5. Pittsfield would tack on a run in the seventh as Danny Bomback doubled in Quentin Davis who singled to lead off the inning to go up 7-5. It would prove to be an important run later on as the Capitales would score three times in bottom of the seven to take the lead at 8-7.
The Colonials weren't done yet though as Johnny Welch led off the top of the eighth by being hit by a pitch. Back-to-back wild pitches moved him to third where he stood with no outs. Scott Knazek came up and drilled a double to the leftfield wall, easily scoring Welch and tying the game at 8-8.
The Capitales would have the final say however, scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.
Anthony Sullivan (1-1) earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Yosandy Ibanez (0-1) took the loss for Pittsfield. Offensively, Scott Knazek drove in three runs for the Colonials while Quentin Davis led the attack with three hits for Pittsfield.
Game three of the series comes up on Saturday night with Pat Moran (0-1, 7.94) on the mound for Pittsfield against Bryan Rembisz (1-0, 0.00) for Quebec. Coverage on pittsfieldcolonials.com will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the Pittsfield Colonials pregame show in front of a 7:05 first pitch from Stade Municipal.
