July 14, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Brockton Rox News Release
LYNN, MA- LHP Rolando Viera allowed just three runs in seven innings but gave up a solo HR to North Shore Spirit 3B J.D. Reininger in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Spirit defeated the Rox in the second-half opener 3-2 at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA before 2,314. Viera has allowed just three runs in each of his past two starts but has lost both games. C Jason Radwan was the only player for Brockton with more than one hit, as he finished 2-4 with an RBI. Spirit LHP Joey Siak beat the Rox with 7.1 innings of two-run baseball and RHP Kevin Fitzgerald garnered his ninth save. The Rox are now 24-23 overall but 0-1 in the second half. Brockton has lost four straight.
Viera gave up a HR to North Shore C Alex Trezza in the third inning, breaking the scoreless tie. The Rox would not be held in check for long. With two outs in the fourth, 1B Francisco Lebron drove home SS Mike Scanzano with a double to left center, and C Jason Radwan singled up the middle one batter later to give the Rox a 2-1 lead. The lead was short lived; Spirit RF Andrew Wishy tied the game with a two-out opposite-field double in the bottom of the fourth. Viera worked out of two jam in the next two innings. He left two runners on in the fifth inning and the Spirit stranded the bases loaded as the Cuban lefty fanned 2B Ryan Bethel to end the sixth.
Reininger homered on a 1-0 pitch from Viera in the seventh, and that was all that North Shore needed. The Rox put runners at the corners with one out in the eighth, but RHP Dennis Robinson picked off CF Simon Williams from third and got Scanzano to ground out to end the threat. Radwan reached with a two-out single against Fitzgerald in the ninth but was stranded to end the game. The Rox send RHP Brad Guy (2-1, 3.71 ERA) to the hill to face Spirit RHP Chris Farley (4-2, 3.61 ERA) tomorrow at 6:05 PM.
